I looked here, http://lugww.counter.li.org/addgroup.cms to see if we, (ALUG) were listed, under the heading East of England, only Bedfordshire appears. Perhaps someone with the necessary authority should consider listing us?

Looking at the page, someone has to be listed as the email contact.
Leaving aside discussions of 'authority' etc - which is a word with other meanings than 'someone who tells you what to do' after all - I agree with John's suggestion that it is better to have some agreement about who is to be listed as the representative of the group.
Who is the contact for lug.org.uk? Logically it would be simplest for the same person to be listed at the above site as well, if we want to be on it.

Whoever can be bothered to read the lug.org.uk lists (I do, but I think other ALUGgers do too... email me if you want to and I'll find the details). At the moment, the email address main-admin@lists.alug... is used.

OK, I have added an entry for ALUG although it will not appear until verified by the site maintainer. I have put the above main-admin email as the contact for the group, myself temporarily as the maintainer ( I am happy to pass this job on to anyone else), 1999-0502 as the starting date, 200 as the number of members and the following as a descriptive note:
We meet monthly in Norwich and there are also frequent meetings elsewhere across the region. Visit the web site and join the mailing list to become a member. We are an informal and unstructured grouping of linux and other F/OSS software.
Any of this information can be changed of course.

And that's the problem, I now remember. lugww can't cope with mailing list addresses as contacts. I don't want yet more email and any single-person listing is wrong anyway. No other ALUG service has only one ALUGger with access AFAIK. They don't accept LUGs may be run by groups of people and I can't be bothered to argue the absurdity of that position, so the listing just got dropped.

That is a really dumb proposition by them, especially given that the way Alug isn't run. Would an address like contact@alug.org.uk that is aliased to main-admin@lists.alug.org.uk work? or is this some other kind of foo?

So how do other LUGS solve this problem?

No idea. Most LUGs are controlled by one person or company. If someone wants to "control ALUG" for purposes of lugww listing, please do, as far as I am concerned.

Hmm, tactful. Thanks.
I suggest that we follow Adam's suggestion and have an email such as contact@... aliased to the main-admin@... address. Can whoever has the authority to do this please do so, once authorised?
In the meantime I am emailing the password required for editing the listing to the main-admin people.

I think Darren Casey has the authority to do that. I'll cc him on this email to ask whether we can alias contact@alug.org.uk to main-admin@lists.alug.org.uk and just how email addresses @alug.org.uk work.

Maybe things have changed as they have now accepted main-admin@lists.alug etc as the contact email for ALUG.
Listing is here: http://lugww.counter.li.org/groups.cms?&cc=GB&rc=EE
