Hullo, list. Can anyone help? After running xf86config in Debian, typing startx gives "Cannot open mouse (No such file or directory)". On looking, I see /dev/mouse hasn't been created. Can I just create my own (and how? using a text editor ok?), indicating a softlink to /dev/ttyS*? How do i know which /ttyS* it is using? (Typing "cat" for /dev files usually leaves me with a hanging situation, no doubt I am trying to read them the wrong way as they are actually being created on the hoof.) Many thanks. Jen PS. Has someone booked a room for Alug for the linux installfest? Do we need to get posters up, advertise on the web, etc? Get lists of members who can attend and what equipment they can bring? to be honest, most of this info is in the HOW-TO's, and before anybody starts, I am not saying that people should rtfm, although that is always a good starting point ;) To be honest I think that people's time would be better spent on other things, another FAQ might not be the most efficient way of using people's time... Teaching people how to find where the current FAQ's are, and how to find this information for themselves would be a better way to go imho.... Sz

Thanks Jenny for bringing this up again. Sorry for shouting, but we need to sort something out here about what we are doing. I believe(may be wrong) MJ Ray was booking the room. has this been done? We need to decide what we are doing in the way of installations. Which Distro? Debian sounds like the one people have the most exp with. Do we have a suitable disclaimer written yet? Does someone want to coordinate who's bringing and doing what? And also a list of whats needed? Sorry if this sounds blunt and unfriendly but we need to do something and do it well.
