Hi all,
I just ordered myself a Sharp Zaurus from http://www.expansys.com/ less than 300 quid including delivery, the best price before this was about 350 quid online and you also get 50 quids worth of free accessories atm... although this may be perhaps a stock clearance, or maybe a new model is just around the corner.
I have used Expansys before and they seem quite good. Anyhow will report back with how good the Zaurus is soon, although I am going to most likely replace the Sharp Linux OS with a free one based on Debian =)

Hi Adam,
Bought mine a while ago, though I haven't had time to use since the birth of my second child, got all domesticated, argh :) You will certainly like and yes you are right there is a new version on the way before christmas I think. Expansys supply one of the best leather cases available, though if you want a more rugged case I would recommend http://www.grindergear.com , was cost effective and delivered within a week.
By the way, at Linux Expo a guy was selling them for ?250, I paid ?360 :(
Hav fun,
J
Stay in tough, would be real interested in your use of the device.

I got mine at the same time as Jamie (we sort of talked each other into it, sorry Jamie)
I love mine to bits, Qtopia is very nice, the fact that it gets an IP address when sitting in the USB cradle is cool, some of the things I have had it doing are simply not possible on other PDA platforms like snorting people's wireless lan's during security audits, nmap'ing (for the same reason) Running a MySQL database I was testing etc....Having Opera as a web browser is also good (if only because it can also view PDF's) It's also quite stable, I had Qtopia die on me once but apart from that no crashes. Most Pocket PC users I know end up soft resetting every few days and even have to resort to the occasional hard reset (leaving them in the field with no data)
If I had to be critical then I'd say that some of the PIM apps feel a little underdeveloped, as does the desktop sync software and the battery life is not so good (especially if you've got a wireless lan card plugged in) I was also a little disappointed that the bundled CD and manuals gave no hints on how to get the thing syncing with Linux, they didn't even mention that it's a possibility !
But overall, I have previously used Palm's since the very first one (but vowed to never buy another one after some rough treatment by Palm Computing during a warranty claim) and I have just finished deploying 40 or so Pocket PC PDA's for a customer, I prefer my Zaurus to either of those platforms.
I haven't tried Openzaurus yet, let us know what you think of it Adam

Indeed, if you need any help my friend, shout.
Here are some links I have come across for help, accessories etc
http://www.aurorasolar.com/ http://www.myzaurus.com/ http://www.drshoo.com/zaurus-blind.html http://www.grindergear.com/basecamp.html http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/zaurus-faq/ http://killefiz.de/zaurus/ http://www.zauruszone.com/
By the way, you really should get Doom running on it, saw it a Linux Expo, really impressive.
Take Care,
J

At Linux expo Sharp were selling them direct from the Gllug stand for 300 quid, I was tempted then but couldn't justify the money. I hope that there was nobody else selling them for 250 quid.....
