I intended to mention it a while back, but I created a channel on the OpenProjects network for ALUG, if anyone feels like using that..
The server is either: irc.openprojects.net or irc.linux.com (same network)
Channel: #ALUG
My job basically entails sitting on IRC all day, so if nothing else, I'll be in there ;-)

I'm just writing out a factsheet/tutorial on getting onto irc. I'll send to andrew when it's done, so he can announce it's url when he makes it live on the alug site.

Unless something changed, the only UK server is hogan.openprojects.net
Connecting via that is sometimes quite a bit faster.
