Personally, I'd make a file and check over the "aliases" file too for good measure. Grep for ne in there if you want to be really sure.

man update-modules seems to say as much as there is, but I can't believe that of Debian... it's probably in a manual somewhere too.

I always thought that the "modconf" program would do it all for you? It was pretty straight forward when I installed the same network card.
