Another thing you may want to consider is sticking GnuWin II on it ( http://gnuwin.epfl.ch/en/index.html ) I know it's windows software so not strictly a distro but it may be helpful, although I guess just sticking debian on a dvd fills most of it up :) Adam

I would prefer SUSE 8.2 to RH9.

Live evaluation CD aside I'm not sure about the licencing restrictions for copying SUSE CDs. You would need to confirm that it does not contravene the Suse licence.

Yes good point Linux Emporium have stoped shipping the download edition because of trade mark issues with the red hat name and ship something called pink tie which has the offending trade marks removed.

This had occured to me also and I am still unclear after visiting the Suse web site. There is certainly an ftp download version which appears to be GPL but it is not clear what this includes. Also, I have seen someone selling Suse professional 8.2 CD sets for about £10 on eBay (UK) which is not to say it is legal, only that someone is doing it.

If we're talking about SuSE Personal or Professional, you are free to copy and share the CDs, provided that you don't charge for them - this is covered by the yast licence: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.2/COPYRIGHT.yast

This does not apply to the SuSE Linux Office Desktop because it includes licenced proprietary software - specifically Crossover Office and Acronis, which are licenced by their owners on a single user basis.

Our "subscription service" for LUGs has rather faded away as the number of LUGs has risen. We used to send all LUGs on our list a full boxed copy, but we can't afford this any more. What can do though is to send just the disk set to as many LUGs as possible - if you send me a postal address I'll send an 8.2 disk set today

I have asked him to send me the 8.2 media, who should be the trustee for the media within ALUG ? one of the librarians perhaps ?

Let me have words with Roger at SuSE to find out what's the best way that LUGs such as ourselves can make use of SuSE's distributions. Sending large boxes full of manuals and discs through the post or carrying them to meetings isn't terribly efficient.

Certainly I've not heard anything from SuSE after the release of 7.1.
