Another common problem is that Windows98 has a default for sending non-plaintext passwords, so you can't get into the linux machine once you have found it. This can be fixed by installing the tweak from the Win98 cdrom

Chris - had a look at this last night, - my windows machine is a PB that came with windows 98 pre-installed and the program itself spread over 2 "recovery" disks, so i had no joy locating a \tools directory on either. Is there any other way of checking to see if this could be the problem? (Trying to get Samba to show in network neighbourhood, for those just joining the thread). What were you thinking of writing the web database in, out of interest? Jenny.
