I did promise to do a talk on the Debian package management systems apt and dselect, and the differences between stable, testing and unstable of Debian. I will also try and talk about the Debian policy of free and Non-free although most of it will be word for word from the Faq.
OK, we have a slate of talks suggested:
1. John Woodard -- "Why I can't install Debian"
2. Adam Bower -- "Debian Package Management"
3. MJ Ray -- "Mixing Debian Stable with Latest"
How about it?

Mine was more of a question than a talk. I fear the talk would be rather short along the lines of "I can't install deb coz I'm a total plonker!" at leat in the eyes of MJR I am. :-)
- Adam Bower -- "Debian Package Management"
Interesting
- MJ Ray -- "Mixing Debian Stable with Latest"
Also interesting
How about it?
Looking forward to it.
Cheers, BJ

Ok, how about I watch you try and install Debian on your PC and then install Debian on your PC. Then I can give another talk entitled "Why BJ is like Rodney and a complete plonker who can't install Debian on his PC" of course this could backfire and you could then give a talk saying "why Debian users are completly elitist, but when it comes down to it they are a bunch of plonkers who are worse than Delboy and Rodney when it comes to installing Debian!"
BTW if you don't get the above joke readers, then you will have to come to the meeting to find out what it is about! ;-)
Ok, maybe I could do a demonstration of how to install Debian on a new PC if anyone has a sacrificial lamb that they would like to bring to the slaughter then let me know! (and no bringing some really obscure hardware just to catch me out!)

If I havent gotten round to reinstalling my notebook by then, you may use that for the example, it'll also save me trying to find a cdrom drive :)
Either Potato (I have the disks for that) basic install, then apt-get dist-upgrade to Woody. Or a straight Woddy install, whatever people would want to see.
Andrew.

I'm bored of having a reliable, useful computer with everything I need. If I can get there with kit, you can try mine. /home is sacred, mind.
I live just off Unthank Road, Norwich. If anyone's coming from round here and has a bit of room in the boot a lift would be appreciated (real blaggers don't need seats...)

OK, there is one condition which applys to everyone, if I do install Debian on your computer then *you* are responsible for backups. I will accept no responsibility for any data loss I will try and preserve any partitions that you want to keep and will try not to overwrite other operating systems (note Win9X is not an operating system IMHO ;-)) but if the worst does happen then I will help you to the best of my ability to restore your data from the working and tested backup that you will have.
Note I'm not saying that I will trash your computer, but accidents do happen and it always seems to be when you are playing with someone elses kit. I have installed many different operating systems in my time on a variety of hardware and have never broke anything (well not to seriously) yet, but there is a first time for everything.

I will be able to give lifts from Norwich, If Alexis takes one seat then there will be two left. Mail me off list for more details.

*EXPLETIVE* Have just realised it's on the 16th, which is the only Sunday I can't make in September. Bug.
This seat is therefore available :-(

I can't make any weekend in September I'm afraid! It goes something like... airshow1, airshow2, friends' wedding, moving house...
Sorry!
