I know this is off topic but I think there may be people here in the know and I've come up blank everywhere else I've tried.
Back in the day there was a thriving community on uk.telecom* newsgroups but unless I'm missing something that has all gone. Does anyone know where such people can be found these days? Public forums, mailing lists, etc?
Admin: feel free to delete if you'd rather I didn't ask here,
Mark

I'd never heard of it before now so thanks for that, I'll take a look at their mailing list.

I still frequent the following Usenet groups:-
uk.telecom.broadband uk.telecom.mobile uk.telecom.voip uk.telecom
There's a reasonable amount of traffic in all these groups still, e.g. since yesterday there's 1 message in broadband and 5 in mobile. It's just about all genuine too, very little junk.

Interesting, which NNTP server are you using? My attempts at finding active uk.telecome* newsgroups wasn't successful.
Or maybe I just didn't set up my client p[roperly, it's been a while since I used usenet!

I use News.Individual.NET and news.eternal-september.org (second as a backup really).

Maybe your 'last read' has somehow got into the future?

.. there's a blast from the past! Although when I go to their site now it says you need to be German national to use their services?

That's a new one on me but seems to work, thanks!

I think it's just me. I'm remembering a decade (plus!) ago where the sort of traffic there is now would imply that the group was dead, so I didn't look as hard as I should have done. Some things don't change though, even recognise a few "faces".
Thanks for the help.

Really? I've just had a quick look at the signup pages and I can't see that. I only let my account lapse a couple of months ago, as well. First time I've now been on Usenet since the early 80's :(

"Due to changes in European tax law coming into force on 01.01.2015, we can only offer our service to users which have their tax domicile in Germany. "
Have to say I don't understand why EU tax law would require this.

Oh, yeah, ta.

AFAIK, they've been ignoring that for years. Like I said, my account only expired (at my choice) in April this year, and most of the people I know who were on Usenet were using NIN.
IIRC, it was something to do with VAT.

Fair enough.
I'm sure I've has a NN account in the past but I mostly used Demon's NNTP servers whilst I was a customer there and haven't used Usenet so much since then.

I think that's their free services, anyone can pay and use them still.
