Sorry, in this question I got the details all wrong. What is not shutting down is dm, not gdm. It is however true that this shuts down fine with either xdm or kdm. And the other thing that is failing is nfs locking, not ntfs... Which is puzzling me a bit, not being terribly well informed, as I don't recall ever installing nfs. Or maybe Mandriva just does it?
