What distro/versions are you using? I compiled Xine 0.9.1 with no trouble on Slackware 8 (X 4.1.0, kernel 2.4.10, with a GeForce DDR).
MDK 8.0 (X 4.0.3, kernel 2.4.1, Geforce 2 MX DDR), nvidia drivers installed. I didn't compile, but used the RPMs and followed the "if you're using Mandrake 8.0" instructions.
I've just d/l the tar.gz's , but compiling on this system always seems to take so much time.... (in the sense that it never works 1st time, only on about th 10th time). I'll have to do it when all other options are exhausted.
Are you actually opening the files individually using Xine? You should just click on the DVD (or whichever decss'ing plugin you have) button along the bottom of the control box and it will find the whole movie.
Err... mine appears to be a tab near the top that says DVD, so I clicked on that. Press the play button, and it hangs....
In one HOWTO, it mentioned that if a DVD is encrypted, you have to make sure that the device is NOT read only (i.e. have write permission on it), in order to negotiate the encryption keys. Did you do this? I mean, did your install ONLY involve compiling and away you went, or did you have to go thru setting up MTRR etc. ??
If you still have no luck, run it from a terminal window and look at the messages it gives out when you try and play a movie.
That'll be my next step.
Once you get it working Xine is excellent, it produces smoother video than PowerDVD on W2K on my PC (Athlon 800).
Now you're just teasing me! My monitor is larger than my TV screen (only ever watch the news on TV anyway), so hence all this palaver.
I'll not have access to my box til the weekend... and well, it'll be the weekend, so I probably won't get owt done till next week.
Thx for the tips, perhaps my next mail about Xine will be more of a "Hooray! it works!" one. :)

Anyone have a copy? Its Oct issue, I only want the mail server article or will pay for the mag + postage
Thanks
Regards Darren
I have a copy and will happily give you the section you need. I was wondering which article you want. If its the article called mail server which is just the letters page or the review of the mail server GL mail 6.0d. if its the latter I would suggest you save your cash and get an open source product such as postfix. GLmail at 525 for 50 users is a lot unless you consider the time learning a standard mail server as a cost but this will pay for its self one day I hope as I put in the effort. I am sure this list will help you with postfix or exim ( I am not sure anyone here will help you setup sendmail but its quite likely ). If you would give me a mail off list including address and the like I will send you the copy of linux format.
As an aside how did the installation of postfix go Laurie?
I was surprised that it was so simple so am curious over others experience. Myself I gave up more than once with sendmail, later I discovered the answer was to not attempt to understand the configuration files and now have no intention of even trying.
One of the people I most respect in the Linux community is a huge postfix evandaulist and I guess that maybe bias as he works for IBM but then Big Blue does know how to write solid cooperate software. Exim is very popular and I know that its installed with debian as the default MTA.
Sorry got a bit of topic here but getting a mail server running under linux is something that you will appreciate once its done as an example today I send mail from my sisters Mac OS 9 computer by connecting to my linux box and checked my email without touching physically the Linux system which would have required me to transfer the monitor.

If you are talking about the article on GL mail I would On 10-Oct-01 D wrote:
