Hi,
I'm thinking about buying a new switch for my home network. I have three in mind (yes I know they're overkill but I like toys!)
Netgear GS716T D-link DGS-1216T Linksys SRW2016
Has anybody used any of these, and got and good/bad experiences?
Thanks
Chris
Dell!
No, really, they often have the 16-port gigabit web managed switch for a stupidly low price, usually less than their 8-port one. I think mine was £87
On a related note, could anyone use a 56-port fully managed modular switch? I'm thinking of selling mine as I don't use it any more...
Matt

Is it fanned? I had a nice managed 100baseT switch with GigE uplink ports on it in my study, but it was too noisy so I replaced it with a basic 100baseT switch that didn't have any fans.

Nope, Dell switch is completely fanless.

Hi Matt
Thanks for the info, I never considered Dell (mostly due to the amount of time I spend replaced dead Maxtor drives in our PCs at work!).
I still like the look of the Linksys SRW2016, and the D-Link is tempting as well as it's the cheapest switch I've found that can do Spanning tree (not that I really need it!)

Damn that's a good offer!
I just bought one.
When I first looked it said £159, then I found if you look in the Small Business section it has the offer.
Thanks for everybodys advice

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it :-)
And a gigabit switch isn't overkill, a 16U rack, now that's overkill...

I'm looking at the manual now, and it seems the 8-port and 16-port are fanless.
Manual is here http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/network/PC27xx/en/ug/PDF/UG_ENd.p...

"None of the above"! :-)
I have a USRobotics model 7930 which when I bought it a year or so ago was the cheapest I could find. Ever since it has just worked.
