Are there any Linux apps for transferring sms messages to a computer? I'm getting new phone and am keen to keep the texts (or some at least) I have on the old one. The only caveat is that it is quite an old phone. (Android 7.1. Old.)
TIA.

I use SMS Backup+ (available on f-droid). It is aimed at Gmail, but you can use it with any IMAP mail server. It works by sending all your old SMS messages to the IMAP server from where you can later retrieve them to the new phone (so you need SMS backup+ on both phones).
Alternatively, you can use a different SMS app on the phone (i.e, an alternative to the google nastiness). I use Simple SMS Messenger, again available on f-droid.

have a look for the android app "super backup" the icon looks like a green square with a rewind arrow on. It's been some time since I used it but if it's still available then it might work for you.

All sorted now. Didn't quite realise I needed to restore the sms messages to the new phone but that's done now.
I went for Super Backup and Restore (icon looks a bit like a geeen power bank with a recycling arrow) in the end.
Thanks!
