Are there any free (preferably as in speech) dynamic DNS packages, to provide services similar to those offered by DynDNS?
Just to be clear, I'm not looking for something like ddclient (which connects to services like DynDNS), I want to set up my own DNS server which can be updated by those types of clients.
(The application is industrial hardware we're supplying as part of other solutions which will often be set up with Internet access, often with dynamic IP, and we want to keep track of them.)

A quick search brings up:
http://gnudip2.sourceforge.net/
and

The text file for RFC 854 contains exactly 854 lines. Do you think there is any cosmic significance in this?

What did you search on? I did search before I posted but found lots of irrelevant info and no answers!
I did find gnudip2 just after I posted, and also I think maybe PowerDNS might have something to offer too (again I found that after I asked). Any experience of either would be helpful, though.

Thanks, I'll follow that one up.

"dynamic DNS server software"
But I agree that most searches siply give you pointers to DynDNS type providers.

Sorry - I have no experience of either. The only DNS server software I use these days is DNSmasq (my BIND experience is very, very old)
