Hmmm.... Seems like people HAVE indeed heard of this part of the world. Maybe we need a special East Suffolk Branch? I was beginning to think that Norwich had a monopoly on ALUG.

My point excatly.. most of the meetings are actually held in norfolk and always too far from here.

Well, there's nothing stopping anyone from organizing meetings/suggesting new venues/hosting meetings. If there's somewhere near you that can host a meeting, why not tell us? better yet, see what you can do about organizing a meeting there. Talk to the list, see what the interest level is for a meeting in that area.
Just my 2ps worth.

I can organise meetings here but then I am moving to norwich next month! Bit ironic though but seriously worth to set up one around here. Depending on how many *nix users there is on this side of suffolk!

Exactly, the Alug is always looking for new venues hence the Anglian part! anyhow I thought that Syleham is the most stable and reliable meeting venue and that is in Suffolk! Anyhow this is a request to everyone on the list to please think if you have a suitable venue available locally. If you do have somewhere then let the list know etc. etc. asking for small donations to help cover any costs is quite reasonable etc. etc. can we try and make the lug a bit more Anglian again. I will have a look for a venue around these parts (Cambridge) soon but that will have to wait for a short while (unless there are any other Cambridgeshire based people on the list who know of suitable ones), I will see if there is a suitable hall near where I work in the village of Reach which the pub recently won the village pub of the year award too :)

I have not kept a record but I get the feeling in the last year or so that most meetings have been in Suffolk and perhaps three in Norfolk. I would prefer more at UAE as I live on the North norfolk coast.

I would have thought travelling to the United Arab Emirates would have taken a bit longer than a drive or train to Suffolk, Although the A140 can be a bit nightmarish at times I agree, I wasn't aware of the passport requirements either I thought the Norfolk/Suffolk border posts were taken down in the mid 80s.....

No they're still there, If you look out over the Waveny Valley from Syleham you can see the obsevation towers and tank traps. This seems to be a necessary evil especially when there is a local football derby. ;-)

AFAIK the next meeting is at Elmswell, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
As Adam say, new venues would be good too. At the moment the three venues we seem to use most often are UEA, Sylham and Elmswell so we do get around a bit.

In the past, we have met in Woodbridge (first meetings were there!) and Martlesham (fewest people ever, IIRC). If some more people from East Suffolk can help organise ALUGs in that part of the world, I'll gleefully hop on a train again. Summer is coming and it's so nice near the coast.
Of course, the above goes for any other nice venues. Pick your date, persuade a speaker into it, get some people to bring machines. I'll do whatever I can to help from over here.
I'm doing some linux stuff at the end of April - Perhaps I could organise it under the auspices of ALUG... Southgate Michigan might be a bit tooo far for most to go though.
Regards, Paul.

Well, there's at least one non-UK member ;-) Not sure they'll travel across the pacific for it... unless you're paying?
