Oh yeah, welcome aboard - even though I only joined the list last week.

cheers! When people say something might be difficult I usually don't try unless absolutely necessary.Maybe I'll get one of those external modems when I've got the dosh.I had a thought tho; I could download the things I need on the this machine which obviously does have a modem and transfer it to my box with Redmond on :) I don't know what counts as on topic for this list but I guess I'll be told if I'm too off.What I'd like to know is if there are any free IDE's for C programming with Linux and secondly whether there's any good art progs (especially ones where you get good control of palettes when in 8 bit colour). If I can get those (which I know is a fairly tall order) and DJGPP working I'll be a happy linux user :) thanks again and BTW, it's nice to be on a local list.Maybe I'll meet some of you one day :) Will
The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org) is free, compatible with Photoshop, and is powerful enough for professional use.
For free programming IDEs there are loads - these are what I use:-
C/C++ - KDevelop (http://www.kdevelop.org) Java - NetBeans (http://www.netbeans.org) Delphi - Kylix (http://www.borland.com/kylix)
There are loads more too. You'll soon get out of that Windows mindset where decent software costs more than 500.
Also please hit "reply all" to include the mailing list, or just reply to the list. Your last e-mail to me didn't make it to the list when I'm sure it was meant to.
