When I start up my wife's new machine it pops up an error box saying:-
Cannot run druid if PDAs or devices already configured
I assume this is something to do with the gpilot set up for her Palm hotsync but I'm not clear how to fix it. Even when there's no actual USB cradle plugged in it still gives the error.

Sorry, as I said I didn't make it entirely clear. I wanted to know *what* was running a second copy of gpilotd so that I could stop it attempting to run. That's why I asked about druid because I assume it's that which is running the gpilotd.

You might want to check what's in the gnome session, then. I would tell you which magic buttons to click to find out, but I don't run the evil that is gnome unless absolutely required.

I run xfce rather than gnome which I think may be the root of my problem, I had to add an extra utility to xfce to get the gpilotd applet to appear in my xfce panel. I think what *may* be happening is that 'something' is starting gpilotd (that something having been installed when I installed gpilot) and then the gpilot applet in my xfce panel is trying to start gpilotd again. However I don't know how to prevent this happening (if it is what's happening).

Surprisingly enough I had already done *exactly* that (but a little faster), it tells me absolutely nothing useful. That thread is all about getting a Palm to synchronize, my problem is quite different, the Palm synchronization is working but I'm getting this annoying pop-up.
Yes, I should have made it clear that my *only* problem was the error message popping up.
I did try and make it clear that I wanted to know what druid is/does so I could dig around and see why I appear to be seeing some sort of conflict between different things trying to set up the Palm sync interface.
