Gnus+XEmacs is probably as good as newsreading (and email) gets, I think, but that assumes you like Emacs. I've strayed, but come back to it again now that my email has hit preposterous. The reason I don't use slrn is its scoring isn't as good ;-)
You obviously aren't addicted to games :)
Mmmm... would people be up for a dumb netgame at the next ALUG or the one after?

I don't even have Emacs installed I'm afraid, I'm a Vim man myself. /me runs away from the screaming Emacsphiles holding lots of rope ;)

Hehe. The scoring on slrn is good enough for me, I basically use scoring for 2 things: 1) A plain old killfile. It's essential since I frequent c.o.l.a. 2) Scoring up posts that have me in the References. It was the only way I could find posts which were in reply to me. Beforehand, I'd miss a lot of posts meant for me.

Perhaps, but I have to attend an ALUG first :) -- Darren Winsper (El Capitano) - ICQ #8899775 Stellar Legacy project member - http://stellarlegacy.sourceforge.net DVD boycotts. Are you doing your bit? This message was typed before a live studio audience.

Got it up and running and it will do for now.

Emacs is far too steep a learning curve for the moment, when I have more time.... And 'scuse me for being thick but what do you mean by scoring?
You obviously aren't addicted to games :)
One thing I'm not is a game head, 10 mins of Lemmings or a game of Freecell is about as far as it goes.

Are we putting the next meet back? Is the guy from Suse coming? Cheers, BJ

Absolutely! I use joe, which is a WordStar clone, coincidentally the first full-screen editor I used back in the days of CP/M, and pretty damned good. I really can't face vi or vim, and emacs is over-kill for me, so joe it is. BTW, I'm off on hols tomorrow, so that's another ALUG missed: sorry lads. Cheers, Laurie.

I started out with joe, but use vim now. You might want to try jed, just for the syntax highlighting (which I can no longer live without in vim). When I am coding, I pick up most of my typos much earlier by colour. -- ___ ___ (o o) "Mr. Worf, scan that ship." "Aye Captain. 300 dpi?"
