I think that defining what is meant by free would make an ideal paragraph, if you mean that linux is free (as in beer) by that setnance you should perhaps change it to something along the lines of "Linux is obtainable for free" as it is a more "correct" thing to write.

Although important, IP freedom might be a bit...I dunno...over the readership's heads?

In any case, I'll add the words, 'obtainable for' as it could be misleading...
