Hello guys,
OK, I just made enquires with my collegues upstairs (I work for the uni computing service so I had to be careful what I d/l) and it seems that unofficial policy on downloading large files from anywhere is 'bugger the cost'. Therefore, RH6.0 iso is currently standing at some 37Mb so far in just under ten minutes.
With a bit of luck I can get this HP DirectCD to create a working CD, and Debian and Caldera offerings will conclude the Great Download of April.
I strongly advise however to bring along you own distribution CDs - assume (as this is the first time I've mastered any CD) that my lot will fail. I'm looking to try out latest RH, Debian and Caldera shortly.
Right, I'll do my Java assignment while I wait...
Regards,
James Green - posting from uni account

Ok - I've already got it and burnt it! Seems I can't boot from it, but it should be okay if you boot from floppy. I'll try another one in a while...
If you want me to put the iso on a fast janet link, shout.

OK I'm shouting. The d/l just hit 70Mbs and stopped, dead. Mozzilazine.org also appears to be dead.

Good. How about Caldera? I really need a Linux machine to do this stuff on...
Goddamit I need this network speed at home :-)

Replying to my own e-mail here but:
Andrew, could you bring along RH6 and Debian on Sunday? I'll grab the latest GNOME and KDE here, plus stuff like GIMP (stable/unstable) and docs, apache, php3, perl, etc. Anyone for latest windowmanagers? Latest themes?
I can't find an iso of COL2.2 anywhere.

James Green

And this is a request for a lift, from Norwich, UEA. My van's on the blink (again). Oh, and any suggestions what I could bring, apart from a truly mind-boggling collection of BNC connectors??? SuSE 6.1 any use to anyone?

Hi all,
Look forward to seeing a fair crowd on Sunday. At last count there should be at least 15 or so of us.
When you get to Melton Grange, go to Reception and say you're with the Linux party in the Sutton Room. That's if you don't see any of us staggering about carrying piles of kit beforehand!
If you want to bring your PC along, excellent - but please remember that it's your responsibility, and I strongly recommend you label any expensive bits and pieces. You will also probably want to bring along an extension cable.
Finally, anyone travelling from Norwich (Bill, Tats), we'll be meeting up in the UEA main car park at 11.45ish - please turn up then. You can call me on 0411 526505 if you need to get in touch.
Right, time to grab some more CD images....
Andrew.
