At ALUG2 I was moaning about my difficulties with the Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live beta drivers in RH6. I'm really please to say that I have managed to get the damn thing to work.
In the beta driver rename sblive.o-2.2.5 to sblive.o-2.2.5-15(or currently installed kernel version RH6 comes with 2.2.5-15) it's read only so you need to change the permissions (don't forget to change them back).
In the install_sblive script change the line that reads `V2=2.2.5' to 'V2=2.2.5-15' (or what ever kernel version you are using).
Run the amended install_sblive script with ./install_sblive.
Modify the /etc/conf.modules file so it reads
alias sound sblive pre-install sblive insmod soundcore post-remove sblive rmmod soundcore install sblive insmod -f sblive
some of this will already be present from the install script. The line 'install sblive insmod -f sblive' forces the module to load even though its not the correct kernel version.
I'm really pleased with myself, my first battle with Linux and I've come out on top. :-)
Regards,
BJ

Strangely enough, I just got mine going too. And I must say, it kicks bottom.

Going to get my new SoundBlaster PCI128 to work tonight. It's interesting to note that these things are not Creative cards, but rather Ensoniq. All in all, I'm a little disapointed with it in a Windows environment. Is the Live card any good?

Just as a matter of interest Malc which distro are you using and what methos did you use to get the damn thing going?
I broke my linux file system big time yesterday necesitating a reinstall. I was trying to install StarOffice with no sucess. My own fault poking for about loged on as root I suppose, very dangerous! Upshot of the matter is no sound again. :-(
I tried my previous method on a clean install of RH6.0 which doesn't now work. This is exacly the same as I did last time which worked just fine (I know they all say that). I can get the cd player to work but no wave files etc. Strange. I recompiled the kernal adding sound support and loaded the drivers manually forcing them with the -f switch in /etc/conf.modules "install sblive insmod -f sblive". The problem arises when I try to access the mixer I get a warning dialog box with the message "no mixer devices available check sound support is included in the kernel"?? I know that sound support is included in the kernel coz I just recompiled it <doh!>
I'm tempted to get another card but this one is so damn good in Windows that I'm determined to persevere with it until It's going again.
What the * is going on here? I can't see that the setup is anyway different to my previous one which worked really well.
