Cheers, Yes I'll have a look on Sunday please. WBH has sent me a copy of his boilerplate - which should keep me busy for a few weeks ;-) I intend to bring a jaz drive with me on Sunday (haven't got a cdw yet so I'm hoping to borrow the company Jaz instead (should give me a chance to play SCSI anyways) - together with the necessary stuff for SourceNavigator, Insight and gdb5.0 if anyone wants to grab a copy. I also intend to have a network card in my machine by then but if not does anyone know how to link up using another method (parallel, serial, modem)? Cheers Earl

I Can only recommend the book
Programming with GNU Software Mike Loukides and Andy Oram O'reilly ISBN: 1-56592-112-7
(I can bring it on sunday if you want to have a look before you buy)
It covers everything from Editing and Compiling to Makefiles and the CVS system.
Also for makeing Makefiles, I found it useful to use someone elses as an initial template (drop me a line if you want me to make a simple one for you)

Thanks
