Hi All,

I have just joined ALUG with a group from Ipswich. It's cool to be here. I have been developing a computer system for teaching in classrooms in developing countries based on Open Source software for the past 2 years. Some friends and I have also set up a charity called Switched On ( www.switchedon.org) and so far we have successfully installed systems in Thailand and India. I'll be giving an IEE talk about our experiences and the technologies we used at BT's research labs outside Ipswich on 3rd May. All are welcome. Hope you can make it!

*Synopsis:* Local charity, Switched On, has a vision to see, "Underprivileged peoples switched-on to the benefits of computing and the Internet." Helping individuals and communities cross the digital divide will be a vital form of empowerment for many, enabling beneficiaries to grow both in self-esteem and earning potential.

Switched On is pioneering innovative, low-cost and effective computer systems to meet this gaping need. In technology terms we are using Open Source (Linux) software on a thin client architecture.

Come and learn about the technologies we used and human challenges faced in deploying systems for poor communities in New Delhi, India and Bangkok, Thailand.
