Hi,
I've just plonked a few more scripts about on my vps and added some useful hostnames to it... so, here's what I've got backup wise: * A read only copy of our wiki, updated daily from Noodle's backup: http://wiki.alug.itshall.be/ * A different interface to the mailing list archive (searchable) http://alug.itshall.be/ (Updated rougly hourly)
(I've also got the normal pipermail archive sitting on disk, that's what I feed to lurker).
So, the only thing that I'm missing, basically, is the users/subscribers for the wiki/mailing list... but this should put us in fairly good stead.
Thanks,

The newer interface to the archive is now updated every 15 minutes, and uses the mail that I recieve to the list rather than replaying the archives...
It is quite handy for searching... though I have just discovered that there appears to be nothing in the archive that contains a mix of "monkey" "spanking" and "chicken" (pick any two, appears that there's nothing for them... ;) Of course, this mail should rectify that situation... (erm, no, there's no reason that I search for those things, but they do appear to be my usual set of terms for testing a search... maybe they don't appear too often and I can validate results or something... I'm sure there must be ea reason :)
Thanks,

Now that is just trying too hard to become Quote of the Day!
Seriously, thanks for the archive and wiki copy.

In view of the recent history of the Wiki, I would like to suggest that we attempt to maintain this spirit. To that end I propose that the Wiki server should run on the following new distribution of Linux (excerpted from a posting today to the Seattle Linux User's list):

Linux gurus who pride themselves on their skills with the command line would finally have a way to prove it if one guy's wacky idea came to fruition. There was one reply to the above: the poster commented "Hillarious!" He has not been seen since. Noodles: have your aliens seen him?

Am I the only person here that is slightly gutted there isn't a download link :)
But seriously if you want to play evil games with linux, leave a few files called "-fr" dotted about the filesystem and see what happens when you run rm * to clear the contents of a directory expecting it to not be recursive ;)

Or as I recall some smart alec doing, leaving files called "*" dotted around.
Lots of help desk calls......

The text file for RFC 854 contains exactly 854 lines. Do you think there is any cosmic significance in this?

One only needs to have tracked reiser to have experienced a similar effect.
Admittedly data loss didn't occur on quite the same basis, but I can assure you the sense of tension was no less palpable for that.

Yes, Reiser has to date been the only FS that has cost me data without the underlying cause being a hardware failure of some kind...although to be completely fair my files were all there, just with random filenames.
Being a pedant though isn't that more a case of Homicide Linux ?
