Hi Folks
I'm thinking of getting a 1TB external hard drive to use as file storage. I plan to connect via USB. Does anyone have any experience of using one on a Linux system and can warn of any potential problems or pitfalls? I'm running Ubuntu Intrepid on a Dell Inspiron 6400.
Thanks
Mark Reid

I'd recommend a Western Digital myBook (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/137325), it connects over Ethernet, but I think some have USB ports too. A friend of mine got one a while back and a bit of knowledge means you can hack it and install all kinds of goodies on the linux-based firmware..

Any external USB disk should be fine, it's usually just a 3.5" SATA/PATA disk with a controller on it anyways - my (now ancient) 80G USB HDD still works fine, just presents as USB mass storage - as you'd expect.
Cheers,
