Hi list Idiotic question of the day. I'm trying to install debian woody onto a compaq proliant 1600, but it is falling over at the first stage of trying to recognise the hard drive. Compaq has an embedded scsi hard disk controller, which the install can't detect. Do I need to install modules from a floppy to take care of this? Thanks, Jen.

Ok this is the 2nd time I've replied to this, only the 1st time I replied directly to Jen (nothing personal this time Jen! :o) )
What's needed are some parameters on the command line to let the kernel know the adapter's i/o address, interrupts, etc.
What you need isn't the SCSI How-To (like I said the 1st time) but the BootPrompt HOWTO, specifically section '6.2 Arguments for SCSI Host Adapter Drivers'. That's what got me out of trouble.
