Subject says it all really, what's the simplest basic Quicktime player available for Linux (if there is one). All I want to do really is check if some .MOV files are working/OK.

Given that .mov is just a wrapper format (like asf, and avi, and nearly every other "video" format out there) what codecs are you talking? You'll probably find that xine can play them, if not, then mplayer + the win32 codecs libraries should be fine.

MPlayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/) with the codec's package for your distro should get you going, don't think I've found a video it wont play.
