BT is having a promotion this week, offering free wi-fi access at many hot spots. There are a 14 listed in Norwich alone, including the railway station (but not the library).

I am looking at it on consume.net but right now I really need a full list of wi-fi access spots in Norwich please?
I think I might as well try this out from today to saturday...

Well, you could always try the link that I gave in the message and select the link 'Where Can I Use It' :-)
And you need to register - a password is then sent by email. Let us know how you get on - if the snow clears I may try and get into Norwich and try it out later.
Which consume.net node do you use?

Doh. Cheers. Brain wasn't engaged quite yet. I blame the pretty snow...

None at the moment.. I also checked this out and it seems to be growing very slowly...

PS - I haven't yet found a complete list, only the BT-serviced ones such as The Cloud. For example, I've yet to find either The Unthank Arms or Norwich Internet Cafe on any online list. There may well be many others.
I remember seeing WiFi Access logo on Cafe Java near the Norwich Union building (Surrey Street?)
I wouldn't mind compiling a full list of wireless access but that would meant driving around the entire city of Norwich!

Isn't this the kind of thing the alug website's contrib section is for? That way no-one has to find them all, but people who come across them can tell the rest of us about them and we end up with grand unified list. I don't mind making a start if anyone thinks that's a good idea.
By the way, hi, I'm new here. Nice to meet you all.

You are quite correct! Great idea BTW - please feel free to start as soon as you wish and email the list to draw people's attention to it.

OK, I've compiled the ones I could find easily from the posts here and some of the links MJ Ray sent (thanks for that MJ). You can find / edit them at http://www.alug.org.uk/contrib/?public%20Wireless%20Access%20Points%20in%20N...
I linked to the list directly from the contrib index - hope that's OK, I won't be offended if anyone wants (me) to change it.
If anyone knows of any more WAPs, I'd suggest submitting them directly via the wiki, but if you post them to the list I can do it if you prefer.
Bye,
Joe

I can't remember but does BattleNet got an Wi-fi access point? I've never been in there but I remember spotting it on consume.net a while ago...

Seems a good idea to me.

Yep. Comrade Savory has some links at http://www.andrewsavory.com/blog/archives/000153.html which might help you get started.

Yes. They have table signs advertising wifinder.com, but weren't listed on that site themselves. I think they also sell wifi cards :D
