Hi all,
I just noticed that when I'm connected to the net and startx a load of data goes out and then in again according to the lights on my modem, I have no great knowl edge of X and would like some pointers to whats happening if possible.
I'm running Debian frozen at the moment with a home brew kernel and Ipmasquerade and firewalling setup (I hope fairly securely) I'm just really paranoid though Are there any good sites for info on X? or at least books as the man pages are a bit daunting at the moment.
see ya all later Adam

Hi Adam,
I just tested this with Mandrake 7.0. I am also running IP masquerading, although my otehr two PC's were not on when I tested it. Watching the SD and RD lights on the modem, when I did startx nothing happened.
As a thought you dont have a program like fetchmail set to run when you startx?
Just a thought Chris :-)
