I have recently installed Linux-Mandrake 7.2 and am enjoyng it. However when I log off there appears a "Failed Message" shortly before "Power Down". It says "Saving mixer settings aumix: error opening mixer [failed]"
Is this important ? what should I do about it ?
I shall be glad to hear from anyone who can tel me what this is all about.

Sounds like Mandrake hasen't automatically set up your sound card. Try sndconfig I think thats is present in 7.2 or maybe drackconf if it isn't.
Cheers, BJ

when the machine starts up it sets the mixer and audio device settings (like volume level for each channel), and when it shuts down it just saves these values (incase you have adjusted them by hand). If you don't have a sound card installed or configured then there is nothing to worry about..
Is this important ?
not really... although the messages might be annoying ;)..
what should I do about it ?
depends, if you have a sound card, configure it ;).. if not I wouldn't worry too much...
