Has anyone had any joy getting a winmodem to work with linux, or know how I could set up mine to work
Lucent LT Winmodem
I have been trying to get it to work on a Packard Bell Easy One Dc Laptop. I was would much rather have the internal modem working, don't want to buy a new one. I am running Mandrake 8.0
Any help would be appreciated

You seem to be in luck, Lucent have released some drivers and other people appear to be working on them. Two useful urls are: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/ http://www.linmodems.org/

You will need to build a new kernel or possibly you may be able to build the modules in depending on how mandrake sets things up. I have used the drivers which someone provided the link too, so I could get my PCMCIA winmodem (also LT winmodem) working on my Vaio, *BUT* it was not easy as the instructions are (might be were) wrong. If you need some more help I will actually try downloading the archive in a minute and installing the drivers so will be able to give you more feedback then.

You appear to be even more in luck! there are pre-compiled RPMs for Mandrake 8.0 here (look at the bottom of the page) http://www.heby.de/ltmodem If you are still running the standard kernel with Mandrake 8 you will need this one:- http://www.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de/heby/ltmodem/mandrake/ltmodem-kv_2.4.3_2...
