Hi all,
Anyone know how to take screenshots of a linux distro *during* installation? Like of RedHat's Diskdroid?
Thanks,
James Green

As John Pulfer suggested at the last meet, vmware would probably provide a neat solution to this.

Wonder if VMWare would do journalistic licences for this sort of thing...
James.

Almost certainly not ;-)
However, I understand they do a student licence for $99 or there abouts, which isn't too bad - chances of persuading va to cough up the expenses?
If you do get a copy, I'd be interested to find out how you get on with it - I'm seriously considering starting operating system development, and vmware would be a *huge* bonus for that.
Anyway - work to do, yadda yadda,
Paul

Maybe.. and if not, perhaps the Bochs people would be more forthcoming (their license is "only" $25 anyway). The obvious downside with Bochs is that it's going to be a lot slower.. Still, it'd probably be okay for your purposes.

Unfortunately, I can't see any way of doing this easily - normally, if we were a magasine or whatever, we'd use a hardware addon to do it, obviously this isn't an option for us at the moment. The only thing that does occour to me is that it might be possible to start a getty on a com port and then restart setup on that terminal, controlling it from a fully set up installation on another machine. Nasty to do though...
