Trying to connect to vodafone GPRS with Siemens MC35 GSM Modem. The SIM and Modem both work with nowsms under windows and they do get handshaking things under Linux but the connection never completes establishment.
It seems that the Vodafone server never sends any kind of ack to the IPCP request, log pasted below. Anyone have any wisdom on this? In UK, voda APN is set to wap.vodafone.co.uk (which works in nowsms), everything SEEMS sane in the settings but only stupidity happens.
BTW, NowSMS is a bit of windoze s/ware for doing this kind of thing but by doing a bit of RTFM I expected to be able to achieve this and more n Linux without paying for some proprietary stuff, plus we run Debian machines at work and don't want to have to bung a 'doze box into the rack with all the associated 'concerns' that creates!

have you tried to run this windows s/ware under wine? That might just be an easy solution..... I am running a very similar thing using 3's GPRS and it works very well under wine. Could be worth a try?

Are you dialing "*99#" as the phone number?
How about using the APN "internet" with username "web", password "web"?

Without knowing how to verify your digital certificate, anyone could stick a 2KB file called "smime.p7s" on an email pretending to be from you.

I know at least mutt, evolution and thunderbird verify the certificate, if it's signed by a known 'good' cert authority, then it's alright, otherwise you might need to look in to it ;)
Of course, this is because some people decided that gpg was (obviously) less secure due to it's p2p nature for deciding wether or not you trust a key... of course, large key authorities are *much* more trust worthy and *never* do anything purely for the money... noooo...
