A while ago I bought a Linux and Open Source Genius Guide.
I didn't find a genius, but the coverdisc had Moblin 2.1 Beta; Google Chrome OS; Fedora 13 Alpha; Absolute Linux 13 and Ubantu 10.04 Apha 3.
I don't intend investigating Google Chrome or Fedora, but are any of the others useful, especially as a replacement for Xandros on the Eee?
(I run Debian on the flaptop and the big box...)

I would recommend "Jolicloud" or "Crunchbang" on your Eee. If it's the default Xandros install, I found it rubbish and wiped it after probably 1 hour. If you're used to Debian already, get a proper OS on there!!
Cheers, Simon

Coo! Not heard of either! (And my first penguin distro was FT, from which SuSE was developed...)

It is. It works, after a fashion, but requires a lot of humouring, especially the direction in the handbook that 'one may not remove programs' OWTTE
If you're used to Debian already, get a proper OS on there!!
This is the general feeling - and that of being patronised, along with the Mañana Syndrome.

Joliecloud looks like a browser of sorts rather than a Linux distro, but Crunchbang looks interesting as a basis.
Shall download Crunhbang next time I'm near a wap - in the meantime, should I read-up on cloud computing with a view to looking-up Joliecloud?
And another thing - using the Eee under Xan dross, I can't use a card in the integral slot, or card reader or USB memory *and* the internet dongle at the same time - if using the memory, I have to unmount it before plugging-in the dongle.
If using the dongle, I have to remove it and reboot before any external memory will work. Is this Xan dross or the Eee?

Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 3 dates the disc to about 12 months ago. Which means about 12 months of security updates to download after installing. I doubt you'll get many takers.
