We already have a pressure group the AFFS, we need
to
go on to the next step, it going to happen, lets
be
first here in East Anglia rather than waiting for someone else. Imagine a party political broadcast
on
Anglia TV, made using Dynabolic. How about putting
the
proposal on a Wiki page.
You also mentioned, to the best of my recollection, somewhere that registration only took a few signatures and 150.00.
Which I offer to pay.
However putting up a candidate requires several nominations signatures and IIRC 1000.00 deposit. then there is the matter of which seat someone is going to stand in. Which seat would estimate we might WIN, as opposed to taking votes from one candidate and allowing another to win. I believe that Ipswich was one I thought might have the best prospect of doing that. that lets a Tory in, where do Software Patents stand then?
Opposition, then provides the route to achieve that without the costs, and may, only may prove more effective. It has to be quick though as the Election has already started, organising for some form of action starts now
Deposits are 500 (zero at local elections), nominations are not people supporting you nessecarily but people saying you have the right to stand, getting 10 or 12 signatures is hardly a problem, 10 minutes doorknocking in your street. Why is money such an issue when an advert in PC Magazine US edition cost tens thousands per page, a party political broadcast is cheap by comparison, IBM spend over a billion US dollars on Linux each year. While Cannabis (LCA etc) and Prostitution (several), to name two single uses get programs on television like the one this morning on BBC1, because using FLOSS is not illegal it does not force to take part in the debate, therefore we do not have a voices. When I tell normal votes Software Patent was an issue at the European Election and reason people voted for Green/EFA and EDD (UKIP), no offense but the have not heard of the issue. So do the LD know why they failed to get a second MEP in are region, that said Machiavelli says always back one side do not stay neutral, if your side win good, and if they loss they may win in the future. As to Ipswich at atleast the Greens and UKIP were anti patents, both Labour and Conservative leaderships back proprietary software. Look at how succesful the LCA have been standing a handful of candidates in 2 election yet they have got law changed in several way, despite their tiny vote, and their is much more contenus than the government running their IT better.
As to other campaigning, when are going to have info-points at local computer shows http://infopoint.jonobacon.org
