I'm far more of a vi-hater than an Emacs user, I think. The one reason to learn vi is that it is on every system. How the hell they got it into the standard is beyond me. That anyone uses it when there's a choice is incredible. -- MJR

Oh well looks like Mark is going to be found dead in the next couple of weeks where the circumstances surrounding his death will be suspicious. Probably the 'Cryptic Keystroke Fundamentalists' who are waging a holy war on anything 'Stallman' related. :-) The EMACS (Even More Awkward Cryptic and Silly) faction of the Anti-Vi Army have also stated in their manifesto that anybody using a copy of Vi or its clones are fair game for editorist attacks including the removal of colon keys and the installation of edlin as a replacement. :-)))) As an aside I'm totally impartial in this conflict coz I can't understand either of the buggers so I'll stick with Pico or Kwrite for now. As an aside I'm totally impartial in this conflict coz I can't understand either of the buggers so I'll stick with Pico or Kwrite for now.
Can I recommend nano as a pico replacement? It's properly GPL and has extra knobs and twiddly bits - looks like pico in general though. Or joe is quite a nice text editor too. I used it before I saw the light and switched to vim. J. -- 101 things you can't have too much of : 17 - Money.
