Does pressing the power button trigger a shutdown event via ACPI on your machine, is it possible that the power button is intermittent short or even just getting stuck ?
You were nearly right - see my post last night. There was a whisker of solder shorting out the reset button to the case, it occasionally moved enough to 'unshort' the button and caused a reset. I found this when I decided to investigate why the reset button wasn't working.
