Hi Does ALUG have a LUG library? Would you like to start one?:-) Wrox Press is a UK publisher (based in Birmingham)- We publish books on Linux and related technologies for professional programmers. I can send out free review copies of our books and it seems only right to me that some of these should got to the UK LUGs :-) I'd like to send you a copy of, "Beginning Linux Programming 2nd Edition" (with a foreword by Alan Cox)ISBN: 1861002971. As it's only 1 week to go before ALUG 5 is upon us I wondered has anybody posted an announce message to the UK Linux newsgroups? Who is coming and what are you bringing? There is a map posted on the ALUG web site http://www.anglian.lug.org.uk/meetings.html to help you find the hall. SuSE/RedHat RPMS

Hi guys, Rather than torturing myself installing all the KDE Development tools, I am trying to locate the all-in-one package, KDK. I have only found KDK binary rpms for Suse 6.1/2, though. RedHat bins are no-where to be seen. So, is it safe to install and use the SuSE 6.1 rpm on a RedHat 6.0 system? Cheers, James. Debian/Potato/Lilo/VMware problem

Adam I run SuSE 6.2 on a laptop with NT. I use the NT boot manager and when I change my LILO configuration I get the same problem. This occurs because I keep forgetting to copy the boot sector from my LILO boot partition to a file that NT Loader can read. When I forget to to this I get exactly the same response as you (Lil-) from LILO. To save the boot sector to a file for NT I do the following dd if=/dev/hda3 of=/mnt/ntc/linux.cnt bs=512 count=1 Where /dev/hda3 is the partition LILO is booting from and /mnt/ntc/linux.cnt is the file in the root of the NT boot partition. Hi guys, As per my subject I may or may not have a big problem with my Box at the mo. I recently installed VMware 2.0Beta to use my hda1 partition with win98 on.(the reason I did this is that 1.1.2 vmware's networking caused kernel problems) Anyway everything worked fine but after an apt-get update/upgrade in the past few days the boot loader has stopped working in the Virtual Machine Lilo outputs Lil- . Now my question is that when I did the apt-get update/upgrade I noticed that I downloaded a new lilo that replaced my boot loader now has this totally screwed my Lilo config and means that If I reboot my machine It won't work? ALUG5 transport

Hi there, Can anyone provide transport to ALUG5 from Colchester? I'm at the uni. If no-one is available, I might be able to get to Ipswich station if anyone can oblige from there. If I get really desperate I can spend the weekend at home in Norwich and hitch a ride with Andrew or someone :) James.
