Corel Linux

Just installed Corel Linux from the PC Plus CD! It took me just 20 min to install to a KDE desktop that is actually quite user friendly. After all the hype/rhetoric documented install problems, I must say that I'm pretty impressed. This is a real step in the right direction for a realistic usable desktop solution. I'm sure that now a viable alternative to MS desktop OSs is just around the corner. I won't be ditching RedHat just yet though because I'm just getting comfortable with its foibles and idiosyncrasies but if I was to recommend a distro to a complete newbie it would have to be Corel flavoured. Just my 2pence worth. Any more info on the next meet? Insecure $ENV{CDPATH}

Does anybody know what to do when you start recieving Insecure $ENV{CDPATH} when trying to open a file, and subsequently can't set any environment variables in bash? Linux Network Programming

Hi all, I'm need to create a library or class which will open a net connection and communicate with a news server. Yes, I need to create it myself. Anyone got any good points to where to start? Using C++. Non-negotiable (one day universities will teach the Open Source Community way...) leafnode and slrn problems

Hi, I have just installed leafnode 1.9.4 from source on a slackware 7.0 box. All went fine, but whenever I use slrn to read news slrn seems to believe that all newsgroups are new newsgroups. Hence all subscriptions are lost and a screen full of new newgroups is presented. Any ideas why? Presumably leafnode after an amount of time will no longer consider certain newsgroups to be new? More Debian Problems

Sorry guys I now have a couple more questions, all help and suggestions gratefully received. No. 1 I now have Exim working as my MTA but the reply-to on the header is listed as adamb@bagpuss (where adamb is my username and bagpuss the hostname) how do I fix this? No. 2 My sound card doesn't work :( (but the tv card does and looks better than it did in windows) I rebuilt the kernel as normal and built the driver in (es1370) and no sound, this used to work with all other distros but not Debian. If I cat /dev/sndstat I get device not found. Any ideas? I have also tried modularising sound in the kernel but no luck. No. 3 In enlightenment I use the scrollwheel button on my mouse to flip between desktops by adding the line ZAxisMapping 4 5 this worked before the upgrade to Potato and E16.3 but now nothing. I hope you all had a good new year, and I'm looking forward to the next alug when/where is it? somebody mentioned that it would be at Laurie's hotel again is this so? Debian problems

Hi guys, Thought I'd get this question in before everyone gets hammered (or not as the case may be) tonight. I just update to Debian Potato with apt-get dist-upgrade (8 hours on dial-up) and I'm now having a couple of problems. The first is that when I upgraded it only downloaded kernel 2.2.12, why is this as I'm sure 2.2.13 was listed in the mirror and is there anyway to just apt-get the patch? the other main problem I'm having is with xdm when I exit the xserver, ps ax reports xdm as running but the svga server doesn't respawn leaving me with a blank logon screen. Also has anyone got recommendations for a MTA to use with Debian is exim any good? and what about news I figure I will be using slrn to read news but do I want to use suck or leafnode? is there anything better? If you can help guys I will be very happy as I may be able to wave goodbye to Windows 98 for the new year. Have a good time tonight whatever you do.
