NTL Broadband

OK, apparantly I can get broadband in Norwich with NTL now, has anyone had any experience with them? I'm thinking more of the technical side of things. I've been informed that NTL uses some gizmo on the phone line so you just plug it straight into a NIC and not a modem, so I'm *guessing* that there wouldn't be any problem. Best way to play .MOV files under GNU/Linux

Any trekkies out there might be interested to know about a bunch of Minnesota fans who have made their own Star Trek look-alike episode using the original Star Trek look and feel, see <http://www.StarshipExeter.com> The episode is offered as a series of QuickTime .mov files, can anyone suggest the best way I can view these on a Debian Woody based system? Journalling Filesystems

when I installed Debian Woody I set up my root partition as ext3. I've been running with it for several months now and it seems to work well. 1) does anyone else use ext3 and, if so, what do you think of it? 2) are there any caveats regarding the use of ext3? (apart from making sure that ext3 support is in the kernel) 3) I'm thinking of converting my existing ext2 partitions to ext3, are there any circumstances where is isn't worth doing this? 4) what about other journalling fs's (ReiserFS or XFS for example), are they any better? and how hard is it to convert from ext2 to one of them? Hi all, I'm going to publish this just as soon as we have the remaining dates, unless someone objects. Improvements are welcome. Note that the first Norwich discussion meeting has been pencilled in for next Sunday -- who's going to be there? Many thanks to the venue organisers (Rob, John, James) for agreeing to dates so far ahead... hopefully we can get them into all the magazines, local papers, etc and won't have to vary them too much. The extra advance warning should help with promotion and attendances, too. In other news, Peterborough LUG's meeting is this Thursday evening. They're having an "open forum" session, much like most of last year's ALUG meetings. Anyone from A47 or A17ish wanting a lift there and back, email me. --- Begin draft: The Anglian Linux User Group needs speakers and presentations! We're interested to hear from anyone who wants to speak about a project they're involved in, or some other aspect of GNU and Linux that is of interest to the rest of ALUG. It's hoped that we can have two types of talk at each venue: the first sort is an introductory type of talk, covering such things as what a piece of software or a project is, what it does, how to install it and get started using it, and so on; the second is a more "in-depth" technical talk aimed at "veteran" users who are interested in how things work and how to improve them. If there is interest, displays may also be offered for the time between talks, when practical help will also be available. The venues have different facilities, including projection equipment, microphones and stages, so please wait for your talk's venue to be decided before preparing that multimedia extravaganza. It is expected that most talks will happen at the Syleham and Elmswell meetings, while the Norwich meetings will be more social discussions. The group is also always interested to hear from people with venues available for ALUG, especially in North Norfolk or Cambridgeshire. Debian upgrade but only a few packages =)

I just want to upgrade autoconf and automake, ive got autoconf 1.4 and need 1.6. I dont want to break the packageing system so id like to upgrade via apt(well dselect but same backend) but i only want these packages and any that they require i dont want to complety upgrade everything though. I also want to upgrade to kde3.1 any1 know if its stable or what line i should add to /etc/apt/sources.list and where? Above all others or below them.
