Debian sarge

Hello List, Whats going on at the Debian project? Linux Format, in their January issue (p. 9), under the headline "Debian Woody reaches for the skies...", report that, "the 'stable' version of Debian Woody is nearing with the launch of a second release candidate", while Linux Magazine, in their January issue (p. 88), talking about the bugginess of the debian-installer, say that, "this would not have been a big problem, if the Release Manager, Anthony Towns, had not set December 1 as the release date for Debian GNU/Linux Sarge", and while packages.debian.org continues to be out of operation and the debian.org front page makes no mention of sarge going stable. Just went and installed this on my machine at work yesterday.. seems fine so far =D Ah.. this just reminds me of the days of 2.4 kernel. Except that I was testing the release candidate using Alan Cox's mad patch set which often froze my PII 233 box sometimes. Now I feel old...... C

Has anybody got SuSE 9.0

If so can they zip me across some cd's (for a fair fee) I need to see if the problem with installing 8.2 on Nehemiah based MiniITX boards has been resolved in 9. For those that may be thinking about installing SuSE (or is it SUSE now, I'm confused) on a MiniITX board, there is an issue with the Nehemiah chip, cpuid says it is a i686 compat, but it does not support the cmpxchg8b opcode, gcc assumes that anything above i486 can handle cmpxchg8b. End result is that suse 8.2's kernel (compiled for i586) will not run. Gahhhhhh I blame gcc as the IA32 documentation states that you should check before doing conditional moves,and that cmov implementation in the processor is optional. If anybody has a set they can copy for me (or lend if they don't have a burner) then it will be most appreciated. After a mail discussion between a few ALUG'ers (including myself) and a representative from SuSE (SUSE) it was confirmed that this was allowed (and even possibly encouraged) by SuSE within User groups (they even sent me some 8.2 media which I have sent to some ALUGers.) Failing that, if anyone has installed SuSE 9.0 on a Via M10000 without resorting to the install on another machine, recompile kernel and swap drive dance required with 8.2, can you let me know. I just saw your information posting in the uk.linux newsgroup (at least I think it was there) and thought I'd come and see what you do here. I've been in computing professionally since 1970 so I've seen a few changes over the years! :-) Currently I'm a C/C++/Java programmer with a company in Ipswich. I live at Newbourne out in the sticks (where there's no ADSL). I'm a Unix/Linux junkie, have been since the 1980s. My desktop machine at work is a Sun Solaris box but is soon to be changed to a PC running RedHat. At home I have a Slackware 9.1 'server' machine that runs all the time.
