If you were wondering why someone @...demon... was quiet on the list, they weren't ignoring you. There were disagreements between the list and Demon and sourceforge for a few days. The crack blackcatnetworks support squad cured the problem quickly once we noticed it. Just been lurking for a while as we have been mega busy at work coping with the aftershocks from a major product release. However I have been following the discussions :o) Just a quick note to say that I haven't forgotten a whole list of things I put my name to, e.g. - T-Shirts/Sweatshirts - Contacting someone at The Forum about use of exhibition/demo spaces - Taking ownership of the graphics web page - Distro survey page - Name badges I'm off on my hols for the next couple of weeks but I will start addressing these once I get back.. promise... honest! Will definitely be there on the 28th in the audience only, sorry my knowledge is far too scanty to try and BS anyone else on this list! As I live round the corner it's not likely that I can offer any lifts but I'm happy to ferry people back and forth from the train station or bus stops. Just e-mail me off list if I can help in any way. And following on from the discussion about meetings, my general view is that I will try and get along to any meeting I can where my time isn't preempted by other commitments. So the point about what's a reasonable distance really breaks down into how long it takes to travel there and back. My gut feel is that anything over an hour is probably too long. But then if it's something like a Debian install and config. workshop.... Hasta Lavista! Keith

Hi all, If the development of the school tools in not started yet.. Please take a look on http://www.avalonschools.com/servlet/avaloncalc This is a fully featured student course calculator and management system written in full from me... the current version have: -- public part ---------- 1. Student course calculator( with all needed visual elements) 2. Student allaying online form with automatically database insertion in MySQL and possibilities to connect with MSSQL 3. Automatic invoice generation 4. Automatic e-mail notification to the student ( agent if it have) and the school staff --private part --- (accusable only from the intranet) 1. Login/authorization page 2. Automatic generation and printing of the Registration letters (Enrolment, Welcome, Receipt/for the payments made/, ..... etc) If the group who plane to develop the school tools is happy to base the new stuff on this system I can arrange to make the current available modules full open source The technologies used for this system are : Apache, Tomcat (or JServ), MySQL, IBM JDK (or any other jdk), (and jtds if you need connection to MSSQL) - the system is fully build in java servlets The system is tested for around 6 month in the real situation and any bugs are fixed. I think the point of that was that they offer a rebate for low usage - possibly it came down to £10 a month if you didn't want gigabytes of transfer per week. I'm fairly sure I looked at Metronet when it was mentioned, but as Martlesham doesn't seem to be on the map so far as all this whizbang technology goes, I lost interest quite quickly. [Alug]Ely: Let's do it again

This is very late, but at least it's here now. On 21 August, a small and hardy band of ALUGgers started a new chapter in the group's history with the first meeting in Ely. Daniel, Rob, MJR, Kirsty, Adam and Steven (or, if you prefer, Kinnison, rjek(?), slef, wildduck, quinophex and, erm, Steven) met up at the Cutter on Ely's waterside, chatted, scoped out the place, ate, drank and were merry, then walked up the hill to the Fountain, chatted, drank and were merry (who needs food?). Then I had to run back for a train so I'd be up in time for work the following morning (and maybe someone can tell me if I missed anything worth posting). I enjoyed it and (as predicted) preferred the Fountain to the Cutter for bber. So, I suggest we meet up again and maybe gather more adherants. When's good for others? Evening of the 17th or afternoon of the 20th? Can someone else try their luck at getting info on the old dispensory as a meeting venue for late-ish October, please?
