Hi Folks, Read somewhere that IDE drives should be mounted as HD 0 and HD 1 on same IDE cable, IDE 0 as master and HD 1 as slave. Some mother boards and some IDE cables require correct IDE cable connector to be used, i. e., top connector is slave, that lower in the cable as master. Later MB probably not so fussy but jumpers have to set. I have just had a battle setting up box two with an IDE drive due to confused jumper pin settings. Particular drive reads from right to left! Be nice if drive manufactures used a common jumper setting! Secondary IDE connector use for CD/DVD/Zips. The most used of the optical drives set as master, 'tother as slave. It seems that using a magnetic and optical drive on same IDE connector slows things down somewhat. This is of course Windoze lore, but assume motherboard/IDE et al works same in 'IX. Zaurus SL-3100 or 3000

Does anyone have a Zaurus SL-3100? I'm thinking of getting one particularly for running some Linux in-car navigation software with verbal instructions. I know this Zaurus has a built-in speaker but would like to know from someone who may have experience of it whether it can produce a respectable volume. firebird-super-server primary key help

Setting up a closed IRC channel

Can any IRC experts out there give me some pointers on setting up a closed IRC channel for the developers within my company? Background is that we (i.e. the developers employed by Kewill in the UK) have over the last couple of days attended a piss-u^H^H^H^H^H^H^H conference organised by the IT director. We were talking about ways we can keep in touch. General consensus was that e-mail and Windows IM weren't very good tools for this if we wanted to open up discussions to everybody and that a closed IRC channel might work well. In total, 13 (14 if you count Tux) people attended so it's lucky we opted to sit in a different place to the usual where there happened to be more seats. Hi, I'm not expert with linux but I've put a few boxes together. I think the problem may be the 2 slaves on IDE Channel 2. I think each IDE channel needs to have one master. Good luck. Well, riseup.net is wonderful and reminds me of my youth - but the residents of my village are middleaged at best, and only interesting in discussing how to manage their Staithe and moorings better. Way back when I worked in the printing industry, (when we set metal type by hand), there was a considered opinion that the coastline of Eastern England was in itself a visual image that was instantly recognisable. Why not therefore, try using the section of the Map of the UK now coloured yellow on the ALUG page, fading away the inland edges and superimposing a Tux on top?
