ANNOUNCE: Linus arrives!

* List: alug(a)stu.uea.ac.uk Hello all. Just to let you know that our event has happened. Little Linus (aka Becky) weighed in at 7 1/2 lbs. yesterday at 5:48 exactly 7 days late. Both of us thought that Linus was a bit of a strange name for a little girl, I did try to persuade Pam that Tux was suitable but she wasn't having any of it so we named her after that great operating system for the Acme Mainframe, Rebecca. :-) Back on the subject of Linux, Red Hat 6.0 installed and working on my PII box in 17 mins I'm impressed, especially with Gnome/Enlightenment. Can't wait to get my hand on SuSE 6.1 for a play now. Soon as I get this Java done and handed in, I'll be backing up, wiping the disk and starting up RH6. * List: alug(a)stu.uea.ac.uk Owen, I don't know how apache comes set up on your distribution (perhaps someone else here does), but if you can see it as http://localhost/ and can ping the Linux box, apache may not be listening for external connections. Can you see it with http://your.machine.address.here/ (using the IP numbers)? If so, look in httpd.conf for various "listen" commands (reading the manual). I see you've posted to uk.comp.os.linux, which is probably the best place to ask, really. -- Mark. However on installation it stops at the configure mouse section. It gives me a menu button to carry on installation but nothing works (apart from setting the root password). I also can not make a boot floppy, it asks me to put the floppy in the drive but does not write anything to the disk. Does anyone know what's up with it? Ashley Mr. Ashley T. * List: alug(a)stu.uea.ac.uk Hi Owen, UUEAS (the Student Union at UEA) have been running a pair of 486s for some time, one of which is visible to Windows. You need the samba package to allow the Windows boxes to see its disks, and smbclient or smbmount to see the NT disks. HTTP shouldn't be a problem. Have you a webserver (httpd) installed, configured and running? UUEAS have recently added a K6/2 to our collection from www.dnuk.com. -- Mark.
