Think I've seen it - sure, bring it along. We should be able to get it up and running. How many ports in the hub? It could act as a bridge between the cheapernet and cat-5 types of network, if need be... Should probably move onto anglian(a)lists.lug.org.uk now, folks... * From: Paul Ward <pward(a)linklaters.com> Good Idea Maybe if they're local companies they ask "What's in it for me?" so we could offer to place advertisements in position where people can see them like "COME TO JOE BLOGGS COMPUTERS at etc etc" just for a bit of free advertising, it may work it may not I know the company I work for would ask that. Status of alug.lug.org.uk subdomain and mailing list..
by alug＠stu.uea.ac.uk 11 Apr '99

11 Apr '99

* From: "Martyn B. Drake" <martyn(a)drake.org.uk> I've finally got confirmation that www.anglian.lug.org.uk has come through. I've just gotten around to setting up the web space for that, so it's already for someone to upload their stuff. The lug.org.uk mailing list should be available by today, but there appears to be some configuration problems at their end (I tried subscribing myself to the list, but got a configuration error back - I've emailed the chap and hopefully that'll get fixed fairly shortly). I'll post details when it's ready for use. Email addresses at the anglian.lux.org.uk domain are almost ready - again, this looks like another configuration error (an MX record points to www.anglian.lug.org.uk and not anglian.lux.org.uk - I've pointed this out to the lug.org.uk chap and this should get fixed soon). If anyone wants an email forwarding address at anglian.lug.org.uk, just email me and I'll get those set-up on Monday. M. I tried to reply to Mark Ray's recent message and got a bounce back, since the Reply-To address is: mailto:anglian@@lists.lug.org.uk I'm beginning to regret having to use lug.org.uk - I've had to mail the lug.org.uk owner quite a bit yesterday to correct problems :( M. - UK Linux User Groups http://www.lug.org.uk This list sponsored by Mythical Solutions http://www.myth.co.uk

* From: Paul Ward <pward(a)linklaters.com> Thanks, that's great to know - I'll be along _ and I'll try to get a few colleagues along (who I've tried to get interested in it as well) Can you point me in the right direction of where to find BASIC, TOY-TOWN linux information for beginners. I posted a mesasge a couple of weeks ago and got a reply stating "why don't you read the documentation and leave us alone until you become more proficient" - kinda put me off for a bit But anyway, thanks for the reply Paul ____________________________________________________________ This message is confidential. Not a daft question at all! This group isn't for magi or gurus only. We need everyone to be involved, from those "just looking" at Linux, who want a bit of a hand as they install it and set it up for the first time, right the way through to the experienced ones who are responsible for keeping Linux-based servers running 24/24 7/7. (We need the latter to help the former too.) The main aim of this group is to provide a physical Linux community for this region. I think we're all going to learn some new things. Just look at Andrew's suggested timetable for the first meeting. Just look at the mailing list archive ( http://www.mth.uea.ac.uk/~h089/alug/list/ ) to see the range as people have introduced themselves. And, even though we mention the newsgroup, we're not against helping out with Linux on the list if we can, are we folks? So come on Paul, follow Martyn's instructions and join the new list with us! Look forward to seeing you next month. -- Mark. -- Welcome to the anglian mailing list! Please save this message for future reference. Thank you. If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, you can send mail to <Majordomo(a)lists.lug.org.uk> with the following command in the body of your email message: unsubscribe anglian or from another account, besides M.J.Ray(a)UEA.ac.uk: unsubscribe anglian M.J.Ray(a)UEA.ac.uk If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, (if you have trouble unsubscribing, or have questions about the list itself) send email to <owner-anglian(a)lists.lug.org.uk> . This is the general rule for most mailing lists when you need to contact a human. Here's the general information for the list you've subscribed to, in case you don't already have it: * A N G L I A N L I N U X U S E R G R O U P * This is the general discussion list angian(a)lists.lug.org.uk. We welcome all help in organising the ALUG. Hopefully, this will be the main place for that. While we are not against general Linux discussion, the newsgroup uk.comp.os.linux may be more helpful/appropriate.
