Thursday meeting - change of venue?

Unless there is suddenly a lot of disagreement at the last minute, this month's thursday evening meeting next week (12th Feb) will be at The City Gate on Dereham Road. If anyone wants to debate this any further, now is your chance. I will assume that no response means no disagreement. Regards Syd

Oi! its not me thankx =-). Im: cpc1-norw1-6-0-cust125.pete.cable.ntl.com ...and your looking for: cpc1-norw2-3-0-cust125.pete.cable.ntl.com ... and as far as i know thats not me. Isnt this just a windows email client exploit? There have been about 30 such emails that ive received in Ximian Evolution on Debian Testing but isnt this a windows virus. Also what does it mean when traceroute shows some stars for one of the lines(hops?) or lots of them? its not me :-P, - Dennis Dryden

Hey all, My name is Richard. I'm new (duh!). I am slowly moving my workflow over to linux. Currently I am using SUSE 8.2. I am trying to work my way towards Gentoo (If anyone has the CD's for gentoo, I'd really appreciate a copy, just a name a price for cd's etc). My main use for computers is 3D modelling and 2D image editing, in september I am starting a Games Design degree at the Norwich School of Art. Does anyone else at ALUG use any form of linux as part of their 2D/3D workflow?

Unfortunately you've just missed an eleven month tutorial on Blender in LXF though the Blender foundation do publish a book. The download is only a few Mbs and its easy to install. Cheers, Richard

Suse 9.0 Disc 2

Ah ha! I've got it! KPPP lists the devices /dev/modem, /dev/ttyS0-3 but these don't all exist on my machine. What I do have, however, is /dev/ttyS[0,1,4]. So I tried # ln -s /dev/ttys[0,1,4] /dev/modem and, finally, ttyS4 worked! (Without any drivers or anything; it definitely is a hardware modem!) Cheers for suggestions, Richard

MySQL Hot Failover

Evening all, We have a requirement to turn some MySQL databases into something more rugged - specifically fully redundant. The best option I think would be a small cluster - with one single IP address to connect to (VRRP?), multiple hardware behind it, each node fully synchronised with its peers. Problem: how? MySQL Master/slave replication isn't what I'm looking for. Googling turns up a couple of commercial solutions: emicnetworks.com openminds.co.uk But they are proprietary and could cause problems by themselves. Has anyone here looked into this, or better solved the problem and if so how? Thanks, James P.S. Got my USB camera working - needed scsi disk support in the kernel - doh!
