Has anyone encountered something like this before? It only seems to happen when posting to alug. Pine is set up to send mail direct to freeserves smtp server, so my only gueses are it's a problem with pine which coincidently has only affected alug mail, a prob with freeserve or alug's mailserver. [Alug]CoLo options

OK, my server hosting is due for renewal and I'm looking at options for an alternative. Currently I'm on a virtual server setup, but this is too limiting for some things I want to do, so does anyone have any recommendations? Obviously I need a good price and solid support where needed, but beyond that I have some flexibility: 1. Just rack space and bandwidth costs - I can look at building my own box - quite happy to do this. 2. Server with bandwidth costs - and I'll install my own software. 3. Server preinstalled with bandwidth costs. Obviously these involve way different costs, or can do. My main stipulation is that it will be running Linux (no ifs no buts, I need flexibility and reliability and Windows just can't provide this - not to mention being cr*p for remote administration). My other stipulation is that it has to be Debian (I'll discuss this, but this is for business usage which means it has to be easy to administer with security updates and software installs - sorry to other distro users, but Debian is the only choice here - yes, I know Gentoo could possibly be another choice, but I have no experience with that yet. I've tried RPM based distros, but I can't face going back to 'dependency hell' again.) Sorry to all non-Debian users out there, but after a brief period of bliss when I first started with Linux on an RPM distro, I spent too many hours chasing dependencies to be bothered going back and seeing how things have improved. Hi, Here at work we are finally getting rid of lotus notes server/client for our mail. Hoorah! Hoorah! We are replacing it with, cough, MS Exchange and a front end of our choice. My brother wants to use a linux box with Opera for his mail, and I would do likewise or use exim-mutt type things. Does anyone have any experience with linux and ms exchange? Is it pop3 or imap? Does it keep its mail in weird format that Opera won't be able to read? etc etc. This is a great opportunity to start running linux as a work desktop, as Notes and the odd word doc are all I need ms windows for now, and I don't intend to miss it! jen

[Alug]Hello, Mobile Athlons and cpufreq

Hello I've been reading for a while but this is my first post. I try to use Debian exclusively and have been experimenting with Linux for about 3 years. I have an Acer Aspire 1301XV laptop with a mobile Athlon XP 1500+. I have tried using Debian, but the CPU gets worryingly hot and the fan is constantly on. I have been looking at the cpufreq project but I can't find much documentation or any updates on its progress. Does anyone know anything about the progress of this project or has anyone any experience with these configurations? A while ago I read about manually changing the clock speed but I haven't been able to find anything since. Thanks, Louise
