Latest Debian CD's for Installdays

Since Debian 3 may or may not be out by June 9th- will anyone have the latest debian CD's (2.2r6?) there? I have just got my USB CD-Writer to work in linux (w00t!), hotpluggable and all (yay!), so I can write CD's at the event if peeps want em. Really off topic!

I know this is really off topic but please pander to my whim. Does anybody know of a good free (preferably open source or gpl'd) secure email client for Windows 2k/xp? I'm sick to death of the various flavours of Outlook/OE etc. It would be nice to be able to download mail when I *have* to use Windows without always worring about the gaping holes in security. -- Cheers, BJ

Linux Installaiton Day 9 June

I'd like to come along to this. I've been trying to install Debian onto my laptop. I've partioned the disk ok and can dual-boot it and got Linux installed as far as the basics, but can't get X to install. So I need help. Do you need to know anything else from me in the meantime? David Robinson

Disassembler

Does anyone know of a good X86 disassembler that recognises DOS .exe file formats? I need to look at a DOS TSR to try to get sound working on my Linux box. TIA Ian

Maybe you SuSE vets could cast some light here ... I can't get SuSE to install using ReiserFS partitions. Everytime, at some point during the package copying process the install hangs - I've seen other people report the problem but haven't seen any fixes/explanations. Help with search & replace

Hi Folks I am in need of some help - I have a large number of small text files that need to be scanned and one specific phrase replaced at each occurrence excluding the first line (which may or may not contain the offending words). I suspect that something like perl may be the most suitable tool for the task in hand. But I know nothing about it.... Just to add to the problem, the files are scattered across multiple directories and the key phrase may span two lines. Regards, Paul.

I understand that TFT monitors have a fixed resolution - say 1024x768 - and can't scale to anything else. What's probably happening is that X is trying to start with a different res so your monitor ignores it. The solution is to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (same file without -4 is for X < 4.0.0) and make the 'Display' things in the 'Screen' section look like this: SubSection "Display" Depth 1 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection You should probably leave in the other depths, but depth 24 is the one you're most likely using. At the moment, you probably have some other res' on the 'Modes' lines - remove all but the one your monitor supports. Bingo! The blind leads the way. Alexis
