I can put up some posters and leave some leaflets around my collage... and maybe even get some ppl to go to one of them. I take it there is no lynn venue... sorry i cant even think of a room in hte collage that we could use... but then maybe i think we need to much. We need a room with tables and power sockets... not many of the rooms have alot of power sockets but we could use extension leads and stuff like that(i cany think of the write words... it is monday morning). HHHmmm ill have to see what i can do/find out. dont get your gopes up though. Well, I'm hoping for more infos and demos than just straight installations. It would be very cool to see interesting kit, if you are able to bring it to one or the other. I suspect we'll have more trouble getting demo kit to Syleham. About these install days: who is putting leaflets where? Some suggest places to put them: - Libraries (OK if you make clear it's a volunteer group) - Computer shops (poster would be better) - Colleges, Universities Where else? Who's contacting local media? Shall I put together a faxbomb? Anyone got bright ideas on the wording? _______________________________________________ main(a)lists.alug.org.uk http://www.anglian.lug.org.uk/ http://lists.alug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/main Unsubscribe? If anyone wants a copy of the poster sooner rather than later, I can send it to your e-mail address offlist. (I'm not likely to be able to FTP it or IRC tonight). The Computer Service Centre opposite Jarrolds in Norwich agreed to hold some leaflets for us, I'll go back tomorrow to give them some colour ones. The other shop (to remain nameless) basically acted as if I'd said "I enjoy killing babies" when I mentioned Linux, although they said they'd think about it, and maybe I did actually say "I enjoy killing babies", you never know. In general, I think you'll need more copies of the leaflets, and less copies of the poster. Ricardo ----- This is my web-based e-mail account. I am afraid I cannot change my linewrap, as the interface does not allow me to. (sorry) -- Get your free email from www.linuxmail.org Powered by Outblaze

> and a URL to the > poster Ricardo has done (Is it accessible from the website, Ricardo?). *eep* not yet. Remind me to FTP it tonight whilst we're on IRC. Also, I think a link to the main Install Day page would be best, since it will hopefully contain a link to both the Syleham and UEA ones. I've got my smart clothes on, and am gonna take a long lunchbreak to try the computer shops on St.Benedicts, St.Augustines and Earlham Rd. in Norwich! ;) Any news on booking the UEA? -- Get your free email from www.linuxmail.org Powered by Outblaze

Oh go on, then.....consider any mails with the heading "Interest in Linux install day 2002" to have been dealt with off-list by myself. I'll send them the aforementioned mail I posted, and store their names somewhere in case we want them later for interrogation, hur hur hur. Jen.

Perhaps a small email saying welcome, a URL to the install page on the website , http://www.alug.org.uk/contrib/?May%2019th and a URL to the poster Ricardo has done (Is it accessible from the website, Ricardo?). Along the lines of "Dear Interested Person, Thanks for your interest in the Anglian LUG install day! All the information you may need about what the day is for and what you can get out of it can be found on our website http://www.alug.org.uk/contrib/?May%2019th or please feel free to join the mailing list to ask any questions you may have about linux or the install day. We also have an IRC meeting on [fill in channel details here] where members of alug hang out on a Monday night adn can answer any questions you may have about what the day entails." And one person can be responsible for sending this mail to any such requests, thus avoiding bombarding the list with it many times. Jen

Linux install day....
by Simon 29 Apr '02

29 Apr '02

Hi everyone.... Maybe I've missed something or am just plain dim (probably the latter) ..... The install day, what is supposed to happen, is it an exibition type venue where "the masses" are shown what linux can be installed on, how easy it is, setting up mail/web/news/samba and all that ? If this is the case I've got one of those monster hot swap, redundant everything IBM 4500's we can build and setup for an example of a Linux server in an enterprise environment.... I may also be able to get my hands on a Compaq DL380 with usual redunant stuff, plus a Compaq Remote Lights Out Card, which is quite funky in itself if you're interested in Out Of Band management... Or is it just a frenzy of installations without too much emphasis on anything in particluar ? Simon

This is the automated ALUG IRC meeting reminder sent to remind you that there is an IRC meeting tonight (Monday) at 8.00pm. The meeting takes place on the irc server irc.openprojects.net in the #alug channel, you can take a look at www.openprojects.net to get more info on the openprojects network. Most IRC clients should allow you to get there with the commands "/server uk.openprojects.net" or "/server eu.openprojects.net" and "/join #alug". Popular IRC clients include tkirc, bitchx, xchat and EPIC on Unix, and Mirc under windows. Here are some links to help you get started with irc.
