Ricardo: > Could the same be done with php? Would it require too much setting up? If you mean "are there wikis in php", I would expect so almost certainly. If you mean "can we allow arbitrary php in a wiki-style system", then hahahahahahaha no. > Could we use some kind of php Nuke/postnuke solution? (I might be missing > something here) I have one under development that we could use, but I didn't see ALUG as being that sort of site. Indeed, the Zope edition of the site had a squishdot which did SFA for its whole life. > Are these valid alternatives? It really depends on what we want out of it, > surely? It doesn't seem to clear to me what we actually want from the > site. Other than the basic info, it's no longer clear to me. I think it's to have some sort of "infobase" that we can store useful bits of info in easily for other group members. If we could attach files to it, it would get the suckers off the mailing list for good ;-) > We *should* consider some restriction IMHO, as there are plenty more > scriptkiddies and other destructive vermin than there are responsible > people... Pessimist. I disagree (about the numbers, not the need for some authentication). -- MJR

Looked at Wiki-wiki. Looks like complete anarchy. I like it. ;-) Could the same be done with php? Would it require too much setting up? Could we use some kind of php Nuke/postnuke solution? (I might be missing something here) Are these valid alternatives? It really depends on what we want out of it, surely? It doesn't seem to clear to me what we actually want from the site. We *should* consider some restriction IMHO, as there are plenty more scriptkiddies and other destructive vermin than there are responsible people... I was looking forward to having to learn CVS sometime. I vote: always do everything the hard way wherever possible! Why make life easy. >Your options: > - Idly support this move (most people) > - Pledge to help maintain the wiki when it's online > - Mutiny (feel free) However, as learning cvs may be several years away on the scale of things, I'll help maintain with wiki, yes. I've given the url the most cursory of glances, being pretty hectic today, but am I right in thinking *anyone* can change stuff - aren't we asking for it? ps. Can I mutinise, as well, just for fun? Jenny. >Vote now :-) --

OK, as part of my policy of announcing things about 17 years before I'll get time to do it, I'm going to make the following proposal: Proposal: - Move the ALUG web site to static core and a Wiki Background information: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki Rationale: - We're not keeping an up-to-date site - People bitch at me variously about XML and CVS - People bitched at me about Zope - People will still bitch about the Wiki, but at least we should get an up-to-date web site with no barrier to entry at all. Your options: - Idly support this move (most people) - Pledge to help maintain the wiki when it's online - Mutiny (feel free) Vote now :-) -- MJR

Simon: > Must get the heating sorted though.... May be able to get a dial-up > connection sorted this time as well. I'm quite happy to travel to Cheveley again, picking up anyone who wants to be collected from Ely or Newmarket stations (I don't think that's too much of a route detour). I would like to see us use a venue in King's Lynn in February if possible. The venue I'd been thinking of is not open at weekends, though, so if someone else in KL has a venue we can use, please mail me now ;-) -- MJR
